Dear LifeTeen Family,

As our semester has ended, I find it fitting to look back, and bring to life highlights of St. Peters Lifeteen program for the 09/10 Semester.

Starting back to April of 2009, when the planning began for the 09/10 semester, countless hours spent in DRE Julie Kilgore’s office with Julie, Kim, Miles, Monique and Chris were spent reading through curriculum, planning and organizing our semesters. The fall semester course was on Social Justice and Morality. Our teens were introduced to what our Catholic faith teaches us about how we are called to live our lives. The spring semester was on vocations. Teens experienced themes based on the course of their life, different vocations they could choose; be the Religious Life: Priest, Sister, Brother, Deacon, Marriage Life, or single life. Along with every Catholics primary Vocation: Living a Christian life.

After the 6pm youth mass, 65 teens met in the Parish Hall for life nights. Each Life Night was filled with teaching based on semester curriculum, small group time based on grade level, and fun activities allowing teens to hear, discuss, and understand our Catholic faith in a manner that holds their attention and incorporates fellowship among their peers.

Some highlights of our semester, in my opinion:
  1. Local Band Ayleron opening the semester up with our canned food drive. Lifeteen collected over 500lbs of cans for local service organizations.
  2. Teens got to experience and Adore Jesus in Adoration on multiple occasions.
  3. Awesome teachings done by Core team, Fr. Charles, Fr. Greg Chauvin, Sisters of the Divine Mercy, and Deacon Wade Broussard.
  4. Our outreach fundraiser: A Night In Bethlehem was a huge success, our teens and Core brought to life a village as it was in Jesus time. This fundraiser brought together our Parishioners and people throughout New Iberia as we all dove into the spirit of Christmas.
  5. Our red beans and rice and silent auction fundraiser was a huge success raising money to keep our program running.
  6. 32 teens participated in our spring retreat, “Jesus Remember Me.” This was an awesome experience, our teens spent a weekend away and learned, reflected, and relaxed together, experiencing “above all” Gods amazing love for us and wanting for a relationship with us.
Everything accomplished this semester would not be possible without the help of an amazing, dedicated CORE team: Monica, Lane, Angela, Chris, and Stephan. Plenty of parent volunteers to assist with preparation, feeding and clean up after social events. Our hall truly represented our theme each night due to the awesome environment work by Melanie Richard assisted by Monica Gilmore. I would also like to thank Mr. Walter DeGravelle for supporting and backing the LifeTeen Program at St. Peters.

Ms. Melanie is retiring from our environment coordinator this year. We are truly going to miss her for her talents and her heart. She was a very dedicated force in our Lifeteen program leading teens closer to Christ.

Much thanks is due to all the above who helped us accomplish an amazing semester and to everyone else who supported our program by donating time and money. Also to those who prayed for our Lifeteen ministry. That is how a ministry survives, by volunteers dedicated to spread Jesus Gospel by donating their selves and talents to serve him.

After looking back, it is hard not to look forward at what is to come. This summer St. Peters offers a full schedule for our teens to experience Christ in a safe fellowship with their peers. Activities promoting fun, education and service to the community. All of these events are listed on the calendar on the Calendar page on this website.

Thank you again to all who help St. Peters Lifeteen program flourish in Catholic Youth Ministry!

Consumed in Christ,

Miles Gaspard
