Summer School of Religion
Registration for the beginning of the 2012-2013
Elementary SOR will be held on April 1, 2012 during the final Class
for the 2011-2012 Elementary Program.
As you know, the Elementary Program is a
two-part program. The first part is a summer two-week session which
covers the text book material. The second is a monthly program which
teaches the traditions and the rituals of the Liturgical calendar.
During the summer we also teach music, crafts,
bible studies and teaching on the saints. Last year we ran our
program with less than a "skeleton crew." Thanks to the wonderful
teens from our Confirmation class and the coordiantor of our EDGE
program, Monique Broussard, who ran the activities part of the
session. We had to teach a second grade class with the use of three
different subs. Although this worked very well, the children had
wonderful teachers: it was a daily worry about who would be able to
give of their time on such short notice. At this time we are in need
of leaders in several areas of the summer program. I am making a
plea for volunteers to come forward to help with this program.
Without volunteer help from you, our
parishioners, changes will have to be made in our program. The
alternative change will be a "home school" program in which the
textbook material will be the responsibility of the parent or
guardian. It will be monitored by the DRE when classes are held
monthly during the public school year. This will make attendance of
all monthly classes mandatory. The monthly program time will have to
be extended to more than one hour a session.
The areas in need of volunteer help are as
follows...We need:
One (1) Second grade teacher;
One (1) Fourth grade teacher;
Two (2) Craft leaders;
Two (2) Snack leaders;
One (1) or two (2) Music leaders;
One (1) Saint and bible study coordinator;
Two (2) Facilitators - One in charge of
addressing the daily activities and one to be in charge of the teen
volunteer helpers.
The 2012 Elementary Summer School is planned to
be in session from Monday, June 4th thorough Friday, June 15th, 2012
from 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Please consider giving as a crafts and themed
snacks and valuable Catholic teaching for our young people in the
first through fifth grade. If you can't commit to the entire two
week session, consider a few days or hours. We love having
grandparents help!!

ADVISORY! The Internet can be a great place to gather information and to network with others...it can also be a bad place. Parents should be aware of what their children do and what websites they visit on the Internet.
