Prayer Blanket Ministry
Mission Statement
To bring relief to the suffering and peace to the fearful. As one uses the
blanket, may they know they are not alone. There are those who care about them
and are praying for their healing. This beautiful act of sacrifice before the
Lord truly transforms this blanket into a prayer blanket whose very threads
become interwoven with pleas for healing on behalf of the recipient.

The Prayer Blanket Ministry began at Prince of Peace Catholic Community -
Houston, Texas in January of 1998. This ministry involves the sewing of lap-size
blankets that are given to many people who are either sick or going through
extremely difficult times in their lives.
Caring volunteers commit to prayer for the recipient, as they are fulfilling
their part in the construction of the blanket.
Each month the blankets are taken to one of the Healing Masses in the
Diocese and placed on the altar, where they are prayed over and blessed by a
priest. Each person who receives a blanket is put on a prayer list and lifted in
prayer.
The prayer blanket is a symbol of a "faith sharing community" praying for the
individual who receives the blanket and their family members.
Who is eligible to receive a blanket?
Anyone, adults or children, enduring physical or emotional suffering; those
afflicted with cancer, AIDS, severed emotional trauma, and others who just need
to feel the enormous gift of love and warmth that emanates from these small
blankets. There is no charge for the blankets. Prayer Blankets are not for sale.
They are blessed at one of the Healing Masses in the Diocese and given as the
need arises. Unfortunately, we are unable to mail blankets.
