THE NAVE
Entering the main body of the church one is struck by its unobstructed spaciousness. There are four rows of pews seating approximately 1,200 persons.

The center panel of the segmented ceiling contains an inverted cross, upon which, according to tradition, St. Peter was
crucified. On the four corners
of the square around it are symbols of the Four Evangelists, painted by the architect. The symbols are: an Angel for St. Matthew; a winged Lion for St.
Mark; a winged Bull for St. Luke; and an Eagle for St. John.

Flanking this decoration are the familiar and very significant words of Jesus to Peter. Symbolic keys and miter of a Bishop and an anchor relating
to Peter as a fisherman, and palms, symbolic of martyrdom, complete the design.
